a few of Mohannad Nasser's compositions in a unique collaboration with Oumi Ensemble.
Since 2014, OUMI has been making a name for itself performing a signature blend of mainly original compositions as well as traditional music from the Middle East, East Asia and elsewhere. Equipped with virtuosic skills on their instruments, they believe in an open approach to their musical traditions and fearlessly fuse them with classical, jazz and many more influences into a unique style: sweepingly fast-paced, sweetly melodic, and passionately improvised.
Their name derives from “umi”, the Japanese word for “ocean.” The musicians come from different shores – Syria, Japan, and Switzerland – and journey together through their music to discover new horizons, encounters and connections.
OUMI has performed in venues across Lebanon, including concerts at the Institut Français du Liban, Zaki Nassif Museum, Zoukak Sidewalks Festival, and Masrah el Madina. Some of its collaborations have included singers Ghada Ghanem and Daline Jabbour, Sufi dancer Mohammad Khansa, and the Yoga Flow Performance “From Earth to Ether”, for which OUMI was commissioned to compose the music. The band has also performed several fundraiser concerts in support for educational programs for disadvantaged children in Lebanon.
